Visitors brimmed with curiosity at the School of Applied Sciences (SAS) booths, with the number of intriguing activities and things each course chose to give visitors a taste of what they did.

On January 8 to 10 this year, Republic Polytechnic (RP) held their annual Open House to allow prospective students and visitors explore the many exciting diplomas they had to offer. Booths for every diploma were set up.

Aside from the usual briefing of the diplomas, many exciting activities, equipment and other things were showcased at each booth to represent what they had.

“I think it is important that the courses here showcase what they are specialized in,” said Afiqah bte Kamaruzzaman, a first-year Marine Science and Aquaculture student.

“When we showcase what we specialize in, the students will be more interested in finding out more about our course,” she added. “For example, our course specializes in marine life and studies so we showcase things like coral, shrimps and all that.”

For instance, at the Diploma of Biomedical Sciences booth, there was a human dummy doll that was open at the chest, giving visitors a glimpse of how organs were positioned in human bodies. They also had fun activities – one of which where the player had to reconstruct a small-scale plastic skeleton set from scratch without any instructions.

Mr Jimmy Quek, 38, a facilitator from RP said: “You have to pick what best signifies your diploma, like what are some of the uniqueness and key things students will be able to learn when it comes to this diploma. Showcase things like equipment no one else will be using outside.”

Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
